At Ishan Institute of Law, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for every student. The institute follows a strict zero-tolerance policy against ragging, bullying, intimidation, and any form of harassment.

Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited across the campus, including academic blocks, hostels, sports areas, cafeteria, common spaces, and all institutional premises. We believe that every student deserves to learn and grow in an atmosphere of dignity, confidence, and security.

What is Ragging?

Ragging includes any act by an individual or group that causes physical or psychological harm, fear, embarrassment, humiliation, or discomfort to a student, especially a fresher or junior student.

As per the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, ragging includes any disorderly conduct by words, actions, or behaviour that:

  • Teases or treats a student with rudeness
  • Causes annoyance, hardship, fear, or psychological harm
  • Creates shame or embarrassment
  • Adversely affects the mental well-being of a fresher or junior student

Ragging is a serious misconduct as well as a punishable offence.

Preventive Measures

Orientation & Awareness

At the beginning of every academic session, the institute organizes orientation and awareness programs for both freshers and senior students. These programs highlight:

  • The harmful effects of ragging
  • Legal consequences of ragging
  • Institutional rules and disciplinary measures
  • The importance of mutual respect and positive interaction

Anti-Ragging Committee

A dedicated Anti-Ragging Committee has been constituted to:

  • Monitor campus activities
  • Prevent ragging incidents
  • Receive and investigate complaints
  • Recommend disciplinary action wherever required

The institute provides multiple confidential channels for students to report ragging. Complaints may be made openly or anonymously.

Counseling and Student Support

The institute understands that ragging can have serious psychological and emotional effects. To support affected students, professional counseling services are available.

Punishable Acts of Ragging

Acts that may constitute ragging include:

  • Abetment or instigation of ragging
  • Criminal conspiracy to rag
  • Physical or psychological harassment
  • Wrongful restraint or confinement
  • Assault or use of criminal force
  • Sexual harassment or abuse
  • Public humiliation or insulting behaviour
  • Criminal intimidation or extortion
  • Damage to property
  • Any act that disrupts academic activities
  • Any act causing humiliation, fear, or mental trauma

Disciplinary Action

Depending on the nature and severity of the offence, the Anti-Ragging Committee may impose one or more of the following punishments:

  • Suspension from attending classes
  • Withholding scholarships or benefits
  • Debarment from campus placements
  • Debarment from examinations or evaluation processes
  • Withholding of results
  • Suspension or expulsion from the hostel
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Rustication for 1–3 years
  • Expulsion from the institution

If the individuals responsible are not identified, the institution may impose collective punishment as a deterrent.
