Legal Aid: Taking Legal Awareness to the Community
Ishan Institute of Law organised a Legal Aid Camp at R.M. Arya Public School, Dadha Village, Greater Noida, as part of its efforts to connect students with the community and give them practical exposure to legal aid work.
The initiative began with a legal aid camp at the school, where students interacted with the local community and created awareness about basic legal rights and available avenues for seeking assistance. Following the camp, the students also visited the village to carry out legal aid and interact directly with residents.
During these interactions, students listened to the legal concerns and queries of local people and tried to guide them regarding the appropriate legal avenues available to address their concerns. Speaking directly with members of the community gave students an opportunity to understand the practical nature of legal problems and the importance of communicating legal information in a simple and accessible manner.
The experience helped students move beyond theoretical learning and understand the social dimension of the legal profession. It encouraged them to approach community concerns with patience, empathy and responsibility while developing their communication and listening skills.
The initiative also reinforced the importance of legal awareness and access to justice, particularly for people who may not be familiar with legal procedures or available remedies.
For the students, the Legal Aid Camp and village visit were valuable learning experiences that connected their classroom knowledge with real community needs and encouraged them to see legal education as a means of serving society.
