Inter College Debate Competition on “Government Scrutiny Over Social Media : Privacy VS Security”

About the Programme

The debate competition on the topic ” Government Scrutiny over Social Media: Privacy vs. Security ” was held on 19^th November 2022 at Ishan Institute of Law. The event aimed to foster a healthy exchange of ideas and promote critical thinking among participants, encouraging them to analyze the delicate balance between privacy and security in the context of government scrutiny over social media. Some argued in favor of stringent government oversight, emphasizing the need to prioritize public safety and combat misinformation. Others highlighted the importance of individual privacy rights and the potential for abuse if the government has unrestricted access to personal data. The competition witnessed passionate arguments from the participating participants, presenting diverse perspectives on the topic. The competition brought together individual from various Colleges and Universities, some are in favor of Privacy and others are in favor of Security. A total of 20 individuals from Sharda School of Law, Sharda University, IILM Law School, IILM University, School of Law, Lloyd Law College, INDCARE College of Law, United College of Education ,and Ishan Institute of Law participated, contributing to the rich and dynamic discussions.

The competition followed a standard debate format, with each participant presenting their arguments and engaging in rebuttals. The participants were assigned roles either in favor of the motion, supporting the importance of the Privacy or against the motion, arguing the necessity of Security in certain circumstances. For the debate competition a panel of judges constituted consisting of:
